In the 1991 tome, "Edge Cities," Joel Garreau wrote of the development of concentrated communities near major metropolitan areas that blend home, workplace, schools and recreation. At that time, places like Tysons Corner in Virginia, King of Prussia in Pennsylvania and perhaps White Marsh came to mind.
